2 day program

Imagine the Bendigo you’d like to see in the year 2100, capitalise on opportunities and mitigate against challenges with renewable energy technologies.

Learning Program Overview

Working in groups, students are tasked with looking ahead to Bendigo in the year 2100 and planning for a prosperous and sustainable city. Starting with examples of different renewable energies and their own ideas for the future of Bendigo, students then get hands-on testing an array of devices that transform and transfer energy (using the scientific method).

Through the Design Thinking process groups research and decide on a potential future energy problem to address. The students then create solutions leveraging innovations in renewable energy and energy efficiency related technologies. Groups may end up producing anything from their own redesign of a wind turbine (using 3D printing) to planning energy supply mechanisms for various populations and industries.

Success Criteria

•             An appreciation for the constructive coexistence of scientific rigour and creativity.

•             The chosen problem each group works to address is underpinned by predictions for the growth of Bendigo and surrounds.

•             Can describe how Design Thinking was used in producing their thoughtful energy solution.
