Bendigo Tech School is a flagship initiative of the Victorian Government’s Education State strategy. It aims to equip young Victorians in the Greater Bendigo LGA with competitive enterprise skills and capabilities.
La Trobe University is the host of the Bendigo Tech School at its Flora Hill (Bendigo) campus. LTU operates and manages the Bendigo Tech School. The Bendigo Tech School is a high-tech learning environment, and its innovative education programs are linked with local industry to deliver real-world learning contexts.
The Bendigo Tech School style of learning is aimed at boosting STEAM skills, boosting student employability, improving student engagement, and influencing study and career choices. This will be achieved through collaboration with industry and community to address authentic real-world problems. Around 10,500 school students from 16 local secondary education providers across the Greater Bendigo LGA have access to the Bendigo Tech School.
Victoria’s Tech Schools provide high-tech, hands-on STEM programs to secondary school students in their local areas. Tech Schools are a dynamic, empowering environment where students can design their own solutions to real-world problems.
In 2014, the Victorian Government invested $128 million to create 10 Tech Schools across the state, each using leading-edge technology and innovation to prepare students to flourish in the rapidly changing global economy. The intial 10 Tech Schools are located in Ballarat, Banyule-Nillumbik, Bendigo, Casey, Geelong, Gippsland, Monash, Whittlesea, Wyndham, and the Yarra Ranges.
In 2023, the Victorian Government invested $116 million to build six new Tech Schools and establish a Clean Energy Equipment Fund. The six new Tech Schools will be in Brimbank, Dandenong, Frankston, Hume, Wangaratta and Warrnambool.
Tech Schools are part of Victoria’s STEM education centre network, which also include Science and Mathematics Specialist Centres, Knox Innovation, Opportunity and Sustainability Centre (KIOSC) and STEM Centre of Excellence.
We are a STEAM-based educational facility that supports our partner schools to access new technologies, innovative programs, professional development and teaching and learning strategies to assist the amazing work you already do in the classroom.
Through partnership with local industry, our STEAM based programs provide opportunities for students to use leading-edge technology. They are empowered through the Design Thinking Process to successfully solve realworld problems in a rapidly changing global economy.
We also introduce teachers to new pedagogies and ways to bring technology into the classroom. Our programs emphasise critical enterprise skills in addition to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) skills required for the 21st century.
Ongoing collaboration between local stakeholders ensures that the development and operation of each Tech School is driven by local knowledge, insight and needs – with a focus on skills and training for future jobs and industries.

Luke brings a wealth of expertise in digital transformation, digital customer experience operations, and leadership, having most recently served as Chief of Staff at Melbourne Business School. Luke holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary), Mathematics and Computer Science. Luke is excited to collaborate with our talented staff, valued industry and community partners, and the many passionate students and educators who pass through our doors.

Travis hasa background in Information Technology, working in client and enterprise roles, hardware and software, and high-security data centres. He has previously held classroom support roles, providing real-time tech support to students and teachers. He is a highly skilled technician with extensive experience in various technical systems and hardware, including 3D printing, CNC machines, laser and plasma cutters, 3D modelling, and FPV drones.

Dan has been teaching in a secondary setting for more than 17 years and, in that time, has taught a range of STEAM-based disciplines, particularly in the areas of Science and Mathematics, with both junior and VCE experience. He has significant leadership experience and experience in developing and delivering STEAM learning programs aligned to Design Thinking, digital technologies, enterprise skills and Victorian Curriculum/ACARA capabilities. Dan has been heavily invested in STEAM curriculum development and delivery which has included overseeing the development and implementation of the Science curriculum from Years 7 – 12 to ensure that learning programs were engaging and compliant with VCAA guidelines and requirements.

Trent is an experienced STEAM educator who enjoys creating hands-on experiences to help students explore their learning in meaningful ways. He has taught across a wide range of year levels and has contributed to developing engaging programs that strengthen student curiosity and confidence.Trent enjoys experimenting with new ideas and finding creative ways to make STEAM concepts clear, accessible and enjoyable for all learners. He is excited to join Bendigo Tech School and help develop programs that spark curiosity, build teamwork and connect students with future opportunities.

Kerry Turpie is a generalist educator with experience in both the Catholic Education sector and the Victorian Department of Education. She has taught in secondary schools across a wide range of areas, including English, Humanities, Information Technology, Media, Drama, and Theatre Studies. Kerry’s practice centres on student voice, ensemble collaboration, and creative confidence, with a strong commitment to accessibility and meaningful engagement through the arts, digital storytelling, and creative industries.

With 20 years of international experience in film and television, Daniel brings real-world industry experience into the classroom. As a camera operator and assistant, Daniel has worked across Australia and North America with major streaming platforms including Netflix, Apple TV, Disney, Amazon, and HBO. After a successful career in the industry, he has transitioned into teaching to inspire and empower the next generation of media creatives. While he may be new to the classroom, Daniel has quickly gained valuable experience teaching VCE VM and Media subjects, equipping students with the skills and confidence to pursue their own careers in media. He is passionate about creating authentic, hands-on learning experiences that connect regional students with professional creative pathways.
