Medical Clinical Immersion Day 2025

With the health sector under strain, especially outside of metropolitan areas, it is critical to invest in and inspire the next generation of medical professionals. In response to this, we have proudly piloted the 2025 Medical Clinical Immersion Day.

Made possible by our strong partnership with the Goldfields LLEN and Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), in July we offered 45 students from six Central Victorian schools a glimpse of life on the frontline.

“This immersion day is about giving students a real taste of what a career in medicine entails," said Bendigo Tech School Head of Programs, Ember Chittenden. "By engaging directly with clinicians and participating in hands-on workshops, students can make informed decisions about a possible career in medicine.”

ACRRM clinicians led the students through workshops focusing on a variety of practical medical skills, including:

  • Applying plaster casts
  • Taking blood pressure
  • Wrapping slings and splints
  • Testing reflexes
  • Using ultrasounds tools
  • Undertaking eye and ear exams

A Q&A panel then allowed the students to explore study pathways and gain real-world perspectives on what regional and rural medical careers are like – directly from professionals currently working in the field.

"It has been good, it has been really fun," Victory Christian College student Ava told The Bendigo Advertiser. "It is nice to get a taste for it all especially if people don't know what they are going to do."

A huge thank you to Emma Nielsen (Goldfields LLEN) and the team at ACRRM – especially Katrina Vazzoler and Lily Cameron – for their vital roles in bringing this event to life. We’re excited to continue working with industry partners to create meaningful pathways from the classroom to critical roles in our community.

And a huge shoutout to the students – your energetic participation and genuine curiosity made for such an incredible day. We can't wait to witness your future medical journeys!
