Remembering Hector Miller

This weekend marks one year since the sudden passing of our much-loved colleague and friend, Hector Miller.

Hector was an exceptional educator at Bendigo Tech School, a leader in student-centred design and a passionate advocate for creativity in learning. Before joining our team, Hector also taught at Catherine McAuley College for many years. His ability to meet students where they are, inspire curiosity, and nurture their creative potential left a lasting impression across our community. Beyond his professional achievements, his humour, warmth and quiet wisdom are remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

Over the past year, we have reflected on the many ways Hector shaped creative and STEAM learning across our region. In recognition of his contributions, we are pleased to share that Bendigo Tech School, La Trobe University Bendigo and Catherine McAuley College have partnered to establish the Hector Miller Memorial Creative Industries Award.

This annual award will be presented to a Year 10 student at Catherine McAuley College who has participated in programs at the Bendigo Tech School and demonstrated creativity and commitment within the creative industries. The recipient will receive $250 to support their continued learning in this area.

It is a small but meaningful way to honour Hector’s legacy, supporting the next generation of creatives in the very spaces he cared deeply about. Our thoughts remain with Hector's loving family, friends, and colleagues. Please join us in remembering Hector and the impact he made on our community.

We miss you, Hector.
