Industry engagement is a key part of programs here at Bendigo Tech School, creating authentic learning experiences and valuable connections for our students. In our popular Digital Storytelling program, students benefit from real-world insights and mentorship delivered in-house through STEAM Educator Daniel Walsh’s 20-year career in the film and television industry.
A film Daniel worked on before becoming a teacher was the focus of a special event in May, Thrash: Behind the Lens. After watching Netflix thriller Thrash (and enjoying plenty of popcorn!), Daniel took attendees behind the scenes, sharing insights and stories from the making of the film and his role as First Assistant “B” Camera. For the media students in the audience keen to break into the industry themselves, Daniel shared insights and stories from his own journey into the field.
Events like these and programs such as Digital Storytelling give students direct access to industry knowledge, helping them better understand the pathways, skills, and opportunities available within the creative industries. A huge thank you to those who joined us at Thrash: Behind the Lens!
