Illuminating Futures

Enquire Now
Did you know millions worldwide are deprived of the basic human right to adequate lighting? The absence of safe and sustainable lighting sources casts a shadow on communities, hindering education, hampering health and dimming hopes for a better future.

This program is a beacon of change aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, helping forge pathways toward a brighter and more equitable world for all. In partnership with SolarBuddy, an international organisation driving social change, students will work in small teams to explore energy poverty and assemble a Student Buddy solar light to be donated to communities in developing countries. Using the Design Thinking Process, students will undertake a design challenge to improve the functionality and user experience of the Student Buddy.

Program Insight

“Building and donating a SolarBuddy light was such an eye-opening experience. I didn’t realise how many communities still live without access to safe, reliable lighting. Knowing that something I made could help a child on the other side of the world study after dark, made me feel like I was really making a difference. This is something that changes lives.”
